Keeping the Tradition alive...
Composite parking lot photo

Some of the many spectators who attend the Farmer's Market Jam Sessions during the summer months at the Virginia Beach Farmer's Market Hoedowns at Dam Neck and Princess Anne Roads.

Jam Sessions are an important and integral part of Bluegrass Music. In that connection, and using part of the TBMA's stated philosophy, "The objectives of the TBMA are to promote, preserve, protect and to perpetuate the unique art of BLUEGRASS music"; a collection of photographs made at the Farmer's Market Jam Sessions follows. TBMA does not sponsor or support these jam sessions other than through attendance. TBMA Members do encourage non-members to attend the monthly concerts at the Hickory Ruritan Club and to become a member of and to support the TBMA.

The pictures that follow were taken during the Summer Hoedowns in 2002, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. The pictures' dates can be identified through the picture's file name. There is no specific order of presentation other than being grouped by month and year.

Webmaster Notes:
I personally participate in these sessions although my ability level is not up to being a front-line participant. In the years I have played the five-string banjo, nothing has helped my playing more than participapting in the jam sessions and playing with others. Even if you feel that you don't quite play well enough to contribute, then by all means, come and at least try. You will find others who will generously help you to play better or to learn new stuff.
